Virginia Foundation for Healthy Youth (VFHY) empowers Virginia’s youth to make healthy choices by reducing and preventing youth tobacco and nicotine use, substance use, and childhood obesity. In 2019, Catchafire’s volunteers and nonprofit advisors helped health nonprofits supported by the Foundation pivot to keep prevention programs running during the pandemic.
Many of the Foundation’s grantees are small organizations with mighty missions, dealing with the overwhelming long-term impact of COVID and inflation, and working hard to retain high-quality staff. That’s where Catchafire’s capacity building support is extremely helpful; our volunteers build capacity for nonprofits making a long-term difference in the lives of Virginia’s youth.
In the coming year, VFHY will continue to provide support for around 100 nonprofits in grant areas including Healthy Communities Action Teams (HCAT), youth development, and community innovation.
